Helping a new business gain brand confidence through a fun and flexible brand identity

Southpaw Print Co. is a small-business providing customized apparel and products, including screenprinting, embroidery, promo items, merch and more. They are based just outside of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. 

Owner Niki reached out to me in the very early stages of planning her new business! Her goal was to create some fun and vibrancy around her brand identity to help her gain some confidence and momentum in marketing her new business. With so many opportunities for fun promo items and merch, we just knew in our early chats that the brand identity had to be thoughtful and flexible.

A big part of this brand identity project was the inclusion of lots of alternate marks, or submarks. As part of the overall brand identity design, there are so many fun possibilities for stationery, stickers, website graphics and more!

I worked in a vintage feel through it all, which fits in so nicely with Niki's small business, her story and her connections with baseball (did you catch the pinched letters I custom-tweaked in "Southpaw" of the logo? This reminded me of the shape of the stitching on a baseball!) The screen texture felt so fitting of the screenprinting portion of her business.

We are honored and blessed to say our Complete Brand Identity Package received both two AAAwards (GOLD AWARD and a TOP 5 AWARD) which moved onto district competition! Jill also designed my website, and one of my sales reps used my website as a example at a national meeting! I have been so blessed to benefit from her talent with Southpaw Print Co. I cannot say enough good things about how Jill was able to listen to my vision and take it further than I EVER imagined!  I have said this before, but if you are thinking about starting a business or already have a business, this was the best thing I did to get off the ground – it gave me direction! And I believe it has helped bring me more business than I expected.

I’ve loved working with Niki on new projects here and there since the launch of her brand identity. This growth is a cool reminder and celebration to Niki as a small business owner of how’s she’s grown her business, but also a great way for her new staff to feel the excitement of joining her team!

The website design wraps up the visual brand elements we developed perfectly – but of course it’s got to be functional, too! It’s easy to navigate, share’s the business story, answers FAQs and provides calls-to-action. It’s the face of Niki’s business while she sleeps as well as a one-stop hub for info, and looks professional and cohesive to new visitors.
